Shane Broderick
I am an Irish folklorist with a wide range of interests in many aspects of Irish folk tradition, history and archaeology. I hold a BA (Joint Honours) in Irish Folklore and Celtic Civilisation. In the course of my studies I have covered several subjects including material culture, calendar customs, fairy folklore, folk magic, Brehon laws, early Irish literature, the manuscript tradition and many more. My studies of the two disciplines have allow me to follow the evolution of Irish folk belief from its earliest mentions in the ancient manuscripts up to the modern day, which has been invaluable in understanding the origins of many of the practices and beliefs that we find today.
Given the amount of misinformation that is out there on the internet, I set up a blog (https://irishfolklore.wordpress.com/) and a Facebook page (www.facebook.com/Irishfolklore) as a means of countering the bad info and also to give people and accessible but scholarly take on Irish customs and traditions. I have been published in a number of magazines over the years as well as delivering online classes and public talk.
